I'm going completely nuts! I've got a 2000 automatic Vette and just lost my 3rd gear on my way home today. I was wondering what different years are interchangeable. I found a 99 tranny, but a mechanic friend of mine said that not all trannies will work with every year car. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. I've got to make a move within the next couple days.
Yea, probably better off with a fresh build... They do make changes every year to them, but they are usually small changes, I believe they should interchange without a problem.
I wish I could just buy a whole new transmission. Only problem is I have a lot of money going out right now. Getting married in November (gotta pay half) and all that goes with that, trying to save for a house. And my car is just about paid off. It's my dream car so I don't wanna dump it... I just can't afford to do what I want to do right now. I was hoping that it'll last another 6-8 months till I buy a truck and my beloved car can rest in the garage for a while.
Lol. Did go as cheap as possible on the wedding. I'd have much rather put the money into the car. But I just need 8 months out of her (the car) then I can play. This whole situation sucks. I'm eyeballing one of the RPM Transmissions as the permanent replacement next year after it gets to relax
I feel for ya man!! But with the expense of the R&R and parts, putting in a used trans is a risk of money that sounds like your not up for right now. I don't know the answer for you but think it through before you plunk down good money after bad. An RPM level 5 will run around $3400 installed, but will take whatever you throw at it and give you years of fun. Good luck!! Rod [ Give Andy @ A&A Corvette a call. ]
The 3-4 clutch pack is the weakest link on a 4l60E trans and always the 1st to go--
When it starts slipping the longer you drive it the more chance you will have of a catastrophic failure costing big $$$ to fix--It will last somewhat longer if you just take it easy til you have the money to repair it--NO WOT shifts-----LOL---
PS: you may want to check your trans fluid to see if there is much metal in the pan--if so change it--If there is some powdery material in there that is the 3-4 pack wearing out and slipping--But if you see any chuncks or big pieces in there--It's already close to ruining your day !!!!
