Default Installing Kooks with heads off

Has anyone installed Kooks with the heads off the car? Any tips? I am installing the 1 7/8" this weekend and just want to know if I still need to tilt the motor and/or remove the starter.

How would you go about bolting the headers up to a headless motor?

Heads are being taken off for ported #799s. While the heads are off, you put the headers into place because there is more room. Obviously, you bolt them up when the heads are put on LOL.

What do you think happens if you do heads/cam on a car with headers? The headers just fall down or something?

What...how did I answer my own question? I clearly asked if the motor needs to be tilted or the starter needs to be dropped for this install. Actually, it appears the steering shaft also has to be removed for a standard kooks install...does that have to be removed in this case too?

Can't say for sure but last year when I had my heads off it looked like it would be real easy to R&R the headers without doing anything else.

I'm doing a H/C my car, the ARH headers slide right in with heads off, I had the rack out so the steering wasnt an issue. Had to get the o2 wiring out of the way, I held them up with some ties until we put it back together

That's the best way to install headers! Once you have the heads off you will have all the room in the world.

I installed my Kook's this way and they dropped right in.

That's awesome. So no tilting the motor or removing starter/steering shaft? Maybe just oil filter and that is it?

I couldn't disagree more. Lot of work to remove/replace heads, not to mention parts.

Again, they are going to be off the car already for my ported head swap. I believe he is implying his were off the car already too.

If you are removing the heads then you can just drop the longtubes in the area they are supposed to be and then once you get the new heads in just bolt them up. It's as easy as that. You don't have to remove the starter unless you are having clearance issues. But since the heads will be off you should have enough room to work with.

You don't need to touch the oil filter. W/the heads off headers should just drop in from the top. Install heads & bolt-up.

Ok drivers side slid right in no problems at all.

Passenger side still required the motor to be jacked up, although it didn't have to go up very far...maybe an inch.

I am so happy I did this with the heads off because with the heads on it looks like a HUGE PITA. I am so happy to get rid of that AIR tube too...that thing got in the way of everything.
