My car is lowered to about 27 1/2 all around and I need traction! I really don't know if Nitto is ever going to come out with the 18" radial and the options seem to be to get a 17" OEM Y2K wheel and do the 315x30x17 Nitto DR. OR I can go with the 16" X 26.2 Mickey Thompson E.T Streets with which wheel. Who knows what tire/wheel works??
The wheel of choice on C5's is the wheel made by CCW. They make a custom 16" wheel for the rears that fits over the factory brakes, will hold a 26x11.5" tire, and they also make a complimentary 16" front wheel "skinny" that holds a 5" tire.

Re: I need TRACTION ! (vstella)
If money is not a concern then the CCW is definitely the way to go for et streets 26x11.5x16 in back and skinnies in front. THis looks the best and is the best for the drags also but probably cost around 2K including tires mounted. For us folk on a budget like myself, get a pair of f-body knock off rims from SLP (16x8) or rims off a 85to86 L98 vette (both these rims will only cost about $50.00 each) and these will fit on the rears and just run stock tires in front. Any application, including the CCWs, will require some grinding (not alot) to get the rears to clear the brakes, etc. Several experts say that it could be dangerous running et streets on the rear with stock radials in front, b/c the et streets are made out of bias ply and these allegedly don't mix well with radials on front. However, many many serious drag racers run this set up with no problem and WADE of ARE kind of put this story to rest when he used the same set up with stock radials on front and he went mid 9s at 145+mph, without no problems. THe guys who say this dangerous state that the car can get squirrelly on the top end and obviously that is possilbe (as anything is) but by running et streets without tubes in back helps make the car feel much more stable. My et streets with Black powder coated rims are going on soon with stock radials and i will be able to put these babys to the test once and for all and expect to see 11.6s or maybe 11.5s (if all goes well).

Re: I need TRACTION ! (vstella)
The crack notch staff at Powerhouse Performance, Chris and John, Orland Parkk, IL, installed my 16x8 f body rims today with 26x10.5x16 et streets. They had to do some grinding, not that much at all, on the upper control arm for the brakes to clear, etc. No big deal! I tested the et streets today and even with 30 psi of air in them i couldn't even spin these bad boys on the street and my car puts out 384rwhp and 417 rwtq. The et streets really hook like a motha fuc ka! I was quite pleased. Because the f body rim is only 16x8 it would not be safe to run the 26x11.5x16 et street and that is why i had to go with the 26x10.5x16 tire and this does not appear that the smaller width will cause me any problems hooking up.
The only problem i had was that with the ets streets on backs and stock radials in front the car felt pretty squirelly at 70mph going straigt ahead and therefore for safety primarily and one more tenth on 1/4 mile shaved of (nice gravy) I will be ordering the CCw skinnies in front as this uses a bias ply and the et streets are bias ply and this makes car alot more stable and less squirelly on the top end. Even though i didn't want to spend the extra $1000 for the front rims and skinnies i figured if i am going to drag i want to be as safe as possible, especially since i have a 11 second vert with no roll bar, Next season i wil get the ccws in the rear to match but for now , i will just use the non matching f body rims in back (which powerhouse powder coated black and gives the car a tuff drag racing look) and will run the non matching ccw skinnies in front. Other than the CCws in rear, the only other rim which will fit the 11.5 inch et streets, is the 16x9 L98 rims but i believe this will require more grinding than the f body 16x8 inch rims.
Nitrovette....Thanks for all the first hand info :yesnod: But now do you think that the 17x11 ZR1 wheel with 17" 315x35 Nitto 555DR is a viable and less costly option overall considering the unstable safety issue at 70mph+ speeds?

Re: I need TRACTION ! (vstella)
Dude:
I think the fbody rims with et streets is cheaper and will hook you much better for sure than drag radials. I tend to be a bit paranoid on the safety issues and many many hard core drag racers run the et streets with stock radials and you shoud be just fine. Little bit squirrelly on top end i am sure one would get use to this no problem and i sure i could run this but just tend to be one with a more cautious personality!
