Hey buddies I need help on installing some long tube headers on an 98. any good post with pictures?
what kind of headers? and what size?
remove alternator, coil packs, spark plugs, remove starter bolts and leave starter pulled out but in place, disconnect engine ground cable. if it has AIR injection tabs they will need a firm PUSH from the bottom to clear the frame on the passenger side.
others suggest loosening motor mounts and prying the engine to clear larger headers.
It really just depends on the brand as to what all has to be done to get them in. The Texas Speed ones for example require alternator, coil packs, and steering shaft to be removed but that is it. Others require the entire engine to be lifted up as well as the starter loosened.
Both links posted above are GREAT resources for the DIY'er. LS1howto is amazing and cajundude's tech section is awesome as well.
Like baxsom said it really depends on what brand you get; some are easier to install than others but the step by step picture instructions on those sites will give you a little more than just a general idea.
it's a lot less intimidating when youre under the car looking up, rather than behind the computer screen thinking about it. im sure you can get them in there with a day's work.
