Default will a new cd player fix my problem

I got a 98 and I think I have a bad door control module. When I open the driver side door. NO interior lights come on. Also when I shut the car off and open the driver side door the radio doesn't disengage but open the passenger door and the radio finally shuts off. The driver side window does roll down I don't know if that has anything to do with door control module or not. My question is I got the stock cd player and want a new one to use my phone on. If I get a new cd player is there a way to have the cd player turn off when the key is out the ignition? Also will a different security system like say one at best buy still work properly with a bad door control module? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Default Yes and No

You can get a different radio installed that will turn off when the key is removed, that's the easy part. The bigger problem with exchanging radios AKA (head-unit) is getting them to work with the factory speakers. Bose speakers have independent amps per speaker and require a signal from the factory radio to work. ( it's been awhile since I changed mine all out so I think that's right. ) You can buy a PAC unit that connects to an after market head-unit to work with the factory speakers. If your going to have an alarm installed honestly you want the door module fixed to keep from drilling and holes and adding a pin switch. Always better using factory wiring on things like this instead of add more wires to try and fix a problem.

Virtually the same problem covered here.

This is likely the DCM. You should troubleshoot and confirm functionality from BOTH DOOR power locks / window controls further before attempting to buy parts. It probably is a $zero fix.

The DCM sends messages over the serial bus (OBD-2) to tell the radio to shut off, BCM for courtesy lights/security, and to the other door's DCM to lock/unlock/window-up/window-down. When you use your key fob to unlock (or the auto-lock as you start driving), that is the BCM messaging the DCMs. Try both the passenger and driver's door window and lock controls, and report what works and what doesn't.

Each DCM controls the "local" resources directly (driver's buttons control driver's window and door lock) so if they work but the "remote" commands fail (opposite door control, key fob, auto-lock), inspect the rubber accordian by the door hinge for a bad/loose/shorted tan wire that prevents these messages from being communicated.
You can also pull your codes from the DIC to confirm "NO COMM" with the DCM. It clearly has power if the window control & door lock works locally, it just can't talk/listen to other devices on the bus.

An aftermarket stereo likely will run on switched-power, meaning it would shut off when the key is removed. A non-OEM radio will probably not participate on the OBD bus, so will lose that courtesy functionality.

I've also read many horror stories about wiring messes created by installing an aftermarket security system or remote start, so I'd be leary.

Please post your testing results and we can continue to troubleshoot.

After reading hundreds of threads here I have seen a common list of complaints and issues and yours sounds like corroded connectors in the driver's side door or loose wires, broken wires in the door accordian. Do a search and find the extensive write up by famous Corvette Forum guru, Bill Curlee. Usually when multiple issues occur like yours it is an electrical connection. Good luck!

I have an aftermarket head unit but I wanted it work like the stock radio. It's easy, all you have to do is installed a GMRAP unit. It cost $30 and it works just like stock. All of that info is over on the audio forum or search on some of my old post. Good Luck.
