Now I don't truly know and someone else might have your answer but I don't think it needs to be indexed. I think you just put it in, clear the codes, so that it recalibrates itself. I think or believe...not sure, that it works by figuring out where the stops are by loading when the dampers open or close. The headlamp motors work the same way with the headlamp controller.
