Today I took the key out of my '98 c5 and the warning chime starting beeping like the headlights were left on or something. I have no idea what is causing this chime. When I get out of the car and shut the door the chime stops but when I open the door again the chime begins again.
Fog lights? Interior lights? Not in Park? Any codes?
None of the above.
It must be something simple it has to be. When I remove the key from the ignition doors are supposed to unlock, they don't. This just started yesterday. I then have to press the unlock button in the car and then when I open the door the chime starts.
Did I already say fog lights or the lights on your mirror?
When the battery was changed did all of your optional setting remain the same?
I can't replicate the problem with my 2001. I am just listing the simple stuff because it is cheap to fix but usually frustrating to find. The rest could potentially be expensive.

Anyone know what is causing this chime??
I'll bet your ignition key cylinder is messed up, there is a couple of brass contacts that touch the resistor pellet that can get bent as the key cylinder gets worn.
You may be able to just put something non conductive in far enough to move the tabs and if the chiming stops there is your answer.
i have this problem with my navigator. the car thinks the key is still in the ignition. i tried some lubricant/cleaner on the ignition but it didn't work much better. maybe some would work for you. no real issue for me but i don't have auto lock/unlock set so you have more aggravation! not worth tearing into the ignition switch imo.
