Default Tunnel brace

Is it really worth putting a thicker plat under the tunnel, tork tube? I am going to make mine but want a real feed back on this eather yes and why or no, I might make mine out of 1/4 al. Plate or 1/4 plate and my stock one also? Last night by my self I got the suspension all removed the rear diff off, the exhaust, trans and converter out within 3 hours. Was pretty easy with the right tools. Last weak I did the ls6 intake and ported my TB. CAI home made out of a big k & N filter oil catch can 160 stat, and hood seal. Hopfully this weakened I can get my headers,X pipe,3200 stall,3.42 gears and my computer back from being tuned, lots of work but should be fun when She is finished.

I did one when I had my exhaust off for some repairs. My car use to creak and such when going over speed bumps and such. Now it doesnt. Car "feels" tighter in turns, but that is from my highly calibrated butt dyno

You have it all off,now would be the time to go thicker or at least add
a thermal blanket to the one you have.
Last time I had mine down, I went with both.
Good luck.

Default Plate

Are they 1/4 or 3/8? Anyone ever put some kinda insalashion around the tube or between the plate and tube? I might take off the cats but I think that is where a lot of the heat comes from, I cannot beleave how hot that tunnel gets my air has a hard time keeping up!

Hey BigthunderNos, You could use the thermal up into the area above the t/tube & also put it on the bottom side of the plate.
I went w/two c/5 plates, sandwitched & pop riveted the two plates firmly together.

Then I used an aluminized Heat Barrier (adhesive backed) thermal shield
Very easy to work with.
Made by Cool It,Thermo Tec
I bought the 24"x48" sheet. part#13590
I purchased it from Jegs.
The sheet is big enough to do two plates.

Good luck.

I just got in from building my new plate it is 1/4 al.and I am going to put the stock one on also, very easy to make I just happen to have a piece the right sizes to cut it out of the band saw with wood blade and the drill press and it was done. What is everyone with a stall running for trans fluid? I went and got new trans filter and fuel filter and there is so many types of fluid. I have a idea on filling the trans also when I put the pan on I am going to use the trans Jack and pour all five qt.in the pan and up she gos hopefully with out any mess. Is there any other type of heat shield I can get up town like something for wood stoves or pipes I could put on the plate?

I also noticed an immediate improvement in turns and body rigidity.
