I have had C1 1962 corvette 3 of them, and 1 C2 1964 corvettes. When getting off the line, no wheel hop and straight as an arrow. All cars had Posi and 4.11 or 4.56 gears. Oh ya, Posi was working, 2 nice black stripes. Off the line.
Why are the C5 corvettes so squirrely off the line and wheel hop. I have a 2001 conv, active control.

Don't know why, but I've noticed the same thing on my and other C5s. If you REALLY want squirrely, try to get off the line with 10-year-old (original) runflats--spins. slides, hops. I tried to get the owner of that car to get new, preferably non-run-flat, tires, but now, two years later, he's still driving on those now-12-year-old tires. He wouldn't listen when I told him he'd make a new car out of it with fresh rubber.
I can also come from worn out suspension parts such as your shocks. I havent replaced my shocks yet but I added a PFADT transmission brace and it almost eliminated my wheel hop completely and it was really sever before. It really helped with the wheel hop going into second as it could get a little scary when the back end starts hopping at 50+, now it just slides around a little bit and goes like it should.
Nothing you do will make it launch like a C1. They've got a solid rear axle. Like said above, make sure your suspension components are in good shape, but above all, the condition of your tires will make the most difference. Among other things, wheel hop is minimized by stickier tires.
I am running Michelin Pilot Sport Run Flats, the rear suspension has been checked out, it's OK, Maybe I need to replace rear shocks, what do you suggest

IF your going to do shocks, I would do C6Z shocks.Bolt right in and I got a practically new set for $220 shipped
depending on how many miles you have on your car your shocks could be worn out and if Im not mistaken the sway bar end links may have something to do with it but they could be a little worn however you said it checked out ok. I will say that a transmission brace helps out loads with wheel hop. I couldnt even spin them in the rain, now I can do pretty much whatever I want and the back end stays planted. I will say they are a pain to install but as long as you have some deep dish sockets you should be fine.
Maybe it's just because you now have enough power to actually spin the tires???
My car really isn't that squirrelly in a straight line. The rear end will slide sideways a bit when spinning but it's not really worse than any other car with some power.
The comment about solid axle vs IRS is true. The IRS can not use the differential reaction torque and suspension geometry to "plant" the rear tires.
