Default AC question......please help

Okay, I promise I have read and researched this completely. All the big threads on the topic were a HUGE help. (thanks to everyone who has posted this stuff over and over)

I have replaced the drivers side actuatior, and the HVAC controll unit (Mine had the dim lights and non working LEDs like so many others).

I am still getting the same two codes (B0441 and B0361)

I have cleared them multiple times, disconnected the battery, pulled the fuse in the box under the passenger floor, etc. and the codes keep comming back.

So, I have read that you have to pull the actuator back out and reindex it by moving the gears 2 teeth counter clockwise.

This is where I have trouble. Is everyone POSITIVE this is the only way to to this? I just cant believe that would be the propper procedure for this. Why the hell wouldnt GM put the damn actuator together correctly to begin with?

any help would be AWESOME. And I apologize for making a post about an issue that has been beat completely to death, but I just want to make sure I understand what to do before I take that actuator back out.

Thanks.

Did you replace it with a new one? If so , you do not have to reindex it. Also, are the codes coming back with an H or C after them? I know from my experience that these codes came back even after I put a new drivers side actuator in, and the only time that they went away was when my AC was properly charged up and working, and I also went through all of the battery, fuse pulling stuff with no luck. So my question would be, how is your AC?

passenger side is ice cold. drivers side is not even close.

yes, I replaced the actuator with a brand new GM part. and I believe the codes came back with an H.

Is it a dual zone control unit? Try resetting the codes with the engine set to on(not running), AC off. Try this several times. See if you can hear the actuator calibrating. I know when I had this issue I could put the system (with AC on) and car running in the warm side and reset the codes and they would stay off, but then came back when I moved (slowly) it to the cool side. It turned out that the freon was low, but I also had a plugged orifice tube.If none of this helps, try getting some gages on the AC system and check it out. They are often related.

I cleared them several times. You can hear the actuator cycle and the same two codes return immediately. everytime I clear them, it goes through its cycle, and the codes immediately return.

damn this is frustrating.

I would then check the AC charge. Probably low on freon. I feel the frustration, been there.
One other note, make sure that when you change temps, do it on the slow side. I know that when I let my son use my car he usually throws the codes, and I know its because he just goes too fast when changing temps, like you can in a normal car.

dmarkshark,

just thought I would let you know that you were correct. it was just a little bit low on freon. Now everything is working perfectly.

Thanks for the advise.
