Default Column Lock --- Help !

I've read all the stickys --- but I still need help.

I have a 2003 standard shift. The GM recall was done in 2008 and a
K harness was installed --- says on invoice special policy 05081 and part # 89023816. The steering wheel now never locks but I hear the locking motor working. When I put the key in the ignition, I hear the motor in the steering wheel work, but I get the "Remove key wait 10 seconds" message--- so I do that. Then, when I put the key in after 10 seconds the message I get is to service column lock and car shuts off fuel when I try to drive car. When I pull the codes, there are NO codes anywhere.

The battery in new and fully charged --- I disconnected the battery and let the car sit for an hour, then connected battery --- same problem. I pulled fuse 25 --- waited a few mintues and put it back --- no help. Fuse 23 is fine.

Is there anything I can do to get the car running or do I have to flatbed it to the dealership. I guess once I get it running I can take it to a tuner to kill the column lock logic altogether but right now the computer won't let me drive the car.

Please guide me so I can get the car running again

Thanks

You didn't mention anything about the column lock bypass (CLB) kit. Did you read that in the stickys? If you don't install it, you won't fix the problem. The dealer fix did not stop it from happening, it just changed it from locking the column to shutting off the fuel.

Yeah, you need the CLB badly. I believe we just saw a very detailed thread about solving this issue from forum member 8VETTE7. Here it is:

" Once you have a fully charged battery you need to disconnect BOTH ends of the GM K harness and plug the lock motor male connector into the female connector that is attached to the bottom of the dash behind the drivers side knee bolster."

Will this procedure allow me to drive the car to a tuner? Problem is, I don't know what I am looking for under the dash and what to pull apart and what to plug together ---- Any Pictures or descriptions anywhere?
I don't like fooling with electronics unless I know exactly what I'm looking for.

Actually, I bought the car in 2008 and it already had the GM fix done but I was asking a lot of questions as I wanted to prevent exactly what just happened to me.

Any pictures or posts you could lead me to so that I don't screw things up royally would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

8VETTE7 --- thanks for the detailed explanation. I'll give this a try this week. My car is a fair weather car and has never seen rain so I'm not concerned about moisture or corroded connections anywhere. After doing research on batteries I realize the battery I purchased in Nov is not right for my Corevtte. It has 720 Cold cranking amps and a reserve capacity of just 90 --- and I believe the GM requirements for reserve capacity should be 120 --- I should have purchased the Delco Professional battery, but I thought this one was better because of the high Cold Cranking Amps value. The low Reserve Capacity value just means it will run down more quickly when the car is sitting and not being driven.

Checking the voltage on my battery it reads at 13.17 volts with the battery in the car and both cables connected. I also checked it earlier today when I had the battery out of the car and it came in over 13 volts so I think I'm good here. I will put a charger on the battery over night and try the start sequence tomorrow morning to see if the problem is solved --- but I doubt it.

Thanks for all your help and I'll let you know how things work out

Success!

With much help and guidance from 8vette7, the problem turned out to be a failed K Harness which was installed in 2008 by GM to fix the column lock issue. I took the "easy" way out and purchased a new
K Harness from GM and replaced the old (falulty) one. Now I need to get to a tuner to defeat the 2 MPH kill fuel logic.

Anyone know a good tuner in Fairfield county, CT or Westchester, NY.

Thanks to all who shared their knowledge
