I went out for a ride in the '98 coupe the other day, and when I started it I got a message from the d.i.c. which said something like, "no response form left side tire pressures" , or something like that....
Any idea what that might be ? How could both left side sensors go bad at once ?

Go for another ride and let us know what it said.
I also have a 98, and you and I and eveyone who has a 97 or 98 will be posting the same question. The life of the battery is gone in the sensor.
In fact I am installing today my first of 4 replacement sensors.
This is going to be a boomng business for the sensor makers at our expense
If you start a C5 that has a run-down battery (but enough juice to start it) the low-voltage condition will often flash messages on the dash, including low tire-pressure messages. I've ridden miles before the alternator got the voltage up enough so that the messages disappeared.
And no, I don't do this intentionally. I've picked up C5s belonging to other people, to work on them, and they had let their batteries go down to that level.
Not saying this is your problem--probably is sensors--but it can happen.
On Sunday, my boy took the car to the beach, 1 hour each way. And yesterday I started the car and did not get the message, so it looks like the battery was somewhat low the other day. I put her back on the battery tender last night....it looks like it was a somewhat low battery that caused it...

My '98 coupe with 75K miles will be 14yrs old on 11-3-11 and still has the 4 original sensors in the wheels....and work perfectly. If fact my whole car is original exc for the tires and some minor mods. I've never had a single problem, so maybe I'm just plain lucky eh? Sometimes parts are good and sometimes they're poor.
