Default CLB installed, still got stranded! '02Z Help!

I'm currently waiting for a tow truck...

Two years ago I had my column lock up; 2002 Z06. So I bought the K harness from GM, installed it, and everything has been fine ever since. I hooked the harness into the body wiring but did not hook the column lock solenoid up to the other end. Worked great until after work today.

Start the car after work and get the "pull key, 10 sec." message. I ignore it, pull out and the car immediately dies.

I've spent three hours searching, pulling fuses, disconnecting the K harness, reconnecting the column lock solenoid, disconnecting the battery, clearing codes... I've tried everythin I can think of, even disconnecting the VSD from the differential so the car can't tell it's moving (it still knows).

Can someone help me out here? Did the K harness go bad on me? Do I need to frog around with a relay by the fuse panel or something (lots of confusing info on that, but nothing seems to relate to an '02Z)???

Insight much appreciated!

Sorry for the spelling... VSD is supposed to be VSS (vehicle speed sensor). Damn touchscreen!

Shake wheel and keep trying, pull key, shake wheel for 15 seconds then reinsert key till it unlocks, it always works when my pos decides to pull some bs on me.

This is what my car did to me, but one time it didn't unlock after repeated shaking. I walked home and came back after reading that shaking works so well for so many people. It took over a minute of VERY agresive pounding to get the wheel to unlock... so I drove it home and installed the CLB K harness (I had it sitting there for months). As soon as the harness went in all was good until today.

You seemed to think so there! If that is not a CLB, what is? The kit pictured in post #2 is what I put into my car, minus the lock plate... I figured if the solenoid was never going to move again what was the point in replacing that plate?

I hooked the harness to the female connector that leads to the BCM and left the other end undone... worked flawlwssly until today.

If you have 12.5 or less measured as stated the column lock electronics are not going to function properly.
The charger is on the car as I type this. I plan to test the battery voltage with the battery charger still hooked up, it should be well over 12.5 if it's fully charged. With the charger hooked up and (hopefully) a voltage above 12.5 we'll see if that works... that will at least rule out faulty electronics. Good info, thanks.

This would be putting the car back to the way it was when the column locked on me before! That's the whole reason I put the K in there in the first place... am I missng something? I don't want to eliminate one problem by replacing it with another.

Clearly I don't that's why I'm here asking for help! Believe me, I appreciate it, I'm just trying to understand what's happenng in there and why.

I was obviously wrong on the CLB thing... I called up GM PartsHouse and asked them for a Column Lock Bypass and that's what I thought they sent me. What I got was the K harness, P/N 19244027. I pulled it apart just now and there is a Tyco relay in there that smells like it got a little hot - it's probably fried. This makes some sense based on what I've just learned by reading through some old threads on the topic.

Looks like I've got to figure out what to do next... wait for a CLB from a vendor in the US (I'm in Canada) or call GM and get their latest version of the K harness... apparently now P/N 19244028. I'll have to make some phone calls in the morning.

On the topic of hooking up the column lock solenoid again, all I meant to say was that the old solenoid is what caused all of this in the first place. Hooking it back up will put me at risk of a locked column just like before. Sorry if I sounded like I was trying to be stubborn, I'm just a bit frustrated with this whole thing... good thing the tow was covered under my Roadside Assistance!

And once again, THANK YOU for all of your input. I've helped lots of folks on here with things I know about, and I sure appreciate getting help when I'm dealing with something I'm not familiar with. It's what keeps these forums rolling!

If you get an aftermarket CLB, Remove your K harness as they don't play well together.

Well, just came in. Battery disconnected read 12.83V, connected the reading dropped to 12.75V. All codes cleared, original lock solenoid plugged in, turned the key, "Pull key...", pulled key and waited, tried again, "Service Column Lock".

Looks like my original column lock solenoid is completely unresponsive, it seems to act the same way as my "fried" 19244027 K harness.

Looking at the schematic for the Tyco relay in the K, if I had a replacement I could just solder a new one in there..............
