Default Fog light issue

Question;

1998 C5 vert, stock fog lights are not working, the light on the switch was working for months, it is now out when switched on, so neither is working now. Finally got at it this morning, assumed the fuse, however the fuse looks good, got another one at the dealer, still does not work, nor does the light on the switch. I know the stock fogs don't throw much light, I just want everything to be working. Assuming #6 fuse (10 amp) if I am reading the manual properly.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Verify power out of micro relay 39.

If the relay is bad then you will not get a power light on your button inside the car as well as no lights.

Second thought is that the grounding of both fog lights is located at a small grounding block just above the pass wheel well (underhood)... just in front of the engine coolant tank. Take it apart and clean all the grounding connections.

Check IP fuse #32, that ground would no cause the light on the switch to not come on!

My 98 fog lights sometimes would come on and other times they wouldn't. The instrument panel lights were doing the same thing. I cleaned the two grounds G101 & G102 that Toque referred to. They are located on the frame on the front inside corner of the windshield washer tank and the front inside corner of the coolant tank. They are black. Take them off and take them apart to clean.

If the light in the switch isn't coming on either, you may have a problem in the connector to the switch or it's disconnected.

The fog lamp grounds are located together at the right forward frame rail

My fog lights died last fall and I didn't worry about it until this spring.

Here's a very quick test that I used to discover my issue.

Step 1
  • Walk out to the car
  • Honk the horn
  • Assuming it works go to step 2
  • If it doesn't then you have more than one issue

Step 2
  • Open under hood fuse box and swap mini relay # 39 with mini relay # 36 (They're the same part number)
  • Honk the horn
  • If it works you'll have to keep digging
  • If the horn doesn't work then go pickup a new relay and you're done.

Worked for me.

I recently switch my original headlight to le mans. Now my fog lights don't work and the light on the switch doesn't work either.

Default Same problem

Had the same problem, I cleaned up the two grounds in the engine bay just behind the headlights and they started working again
