Default Battery acid?

I found a dried pool of what looked like battery acid in a spot on the concrete garage floor that would be under the battery. This is the first time I have seen it. I checked the battery, and could not see any acid or stain on the side of the battery.
I checked the wiring under the battery, and could not see any damage.
Any ideas?

I have heard a lot about this problem. Do a search on leaking battery and see what kind off problems you could be in for. Hopefully not though.

Thanks;

I did a search, and not much information on it. I can see that the wrapping around the wire harness is degraded, showing some of the wires, so I am going to put a shroud around the wire harness. I removed the battery and can not see any leak on the side of the battery. I might just purchase a sealed battery "just in case". I don't want wires being burnt through with acid.
Anyone make a plastic battery box to catch any leaking acid?

Just get a sealed AGM battery and not worry about it anymore. I don't know why these cars even come with conventional liquid acid batteries. Especially since it sits right above the car's most critical electronic components (ECM).

I think that they did come with a gel battery for a couple of production years, but GM eventually decided to go back to a conventional battery. I guess it was a question of cost.

It could be the a/c condensation. The drain is in the same general area. While the condensation looks clear, it may drip down over dirt contaminated areas of the engine compartment, or reacts with the concrete when it puddles. And it probably has trace minerals in it.

I see the same on the vinyl mat beneath my lift after the car is parked following a drive.

Thanks for all your replies. I just installed a Optima 75/35 so if it was the battery, it won't be a problem now. I will keep an eye on any future stain. It could be the a/c, but I don't think so. Kragen had the Optima on sale for $149.95
All is good now.
