Course it could just be shot, or have a connection that worked loose, but it seems like a good chance the mirror assembly that reflects the HUD image up onto the windshield probably broke and the image just isn't making up onto the windshield any longer. The pins that the mirror assembly tilts on wear out/break alot and cause the image to sit too low on the windshield, could easily happen at all once from a good jolt and drop the HUD image out of view...
Maybe try turning the car on at night in the dark and try to look down into the hud projector area from outside the car and see if you can tell if the thing is actually projecting at all, depending on how bad something broke you might be able to use the HUD position adjustment controls to see if you can get the HUD back into view at all and confirm it is working.
Use the search function and look for "HUD too low" or similar and you'll find posts, including a writeup on the repair of the common pin on the mirror that breaks and dash removal instructions.

The usual failures are the pivot pin on it but as mentioned above there are only a couple of possibilities. The only way you are going to know is to take the dash cover off and look. Its not as hard as you might think.
He joebucksr, you need to let us know. Is it out, or is it on and just too low? Did you try turning the brightness slide up? Did you try running the adjustment back up for position? If it's out, a connection could have come loose, maybe for some reason a fuse blew. Too little info can get you an incorrect or incomplete answer.

The HUD is powered by the IPC itself. If there is a fuse, it'll be in the passenger footwell fuse box. I would think your IPC would be having other issues too. Now having said that, the power and date for the HUD comes off a ribbon cable from the top of the IPC to the HUD and its possible it may have worked lose. You would have to remove the IPC to find out.
