Default To coat or not to coat??

I am having a set of headers made for my Z by http://www.stainlessworks.net The headers are made with low carbon stainless and the flanges will be 3/8". Should I get the headers coated or will it just be a waste of money? The coating process will add about $2-$300 to the price of the headers.

Thoughts?

Definately coat them. Non-coated headers look like crap after a couple hundred miles.

Non-coated headers will turn all sorts of colors after a while. Coated headers will lower your underhood temperature by a whole bunch also.

I'd take the $999.00 you spend on the headers, plus the $2-$300 you will spend on the coating and buy a completely coated set of headers, X-pipe, high-flow cats and offroad pipes from FLP for $1,600.00. Plus it bolts on without any cutting or welding!:D

MT, that would be an option but they are not stainless. I don't like the idea of having mild steel connected to stainless and then titanium, seems odd to me.

Aside from that the stainlessworks headers are top notch in quality and fit and as said previosuly I am having them made with 3/8" flanges. They'll make whatever you want, try that with the others....

It's all about options. I plan to dyno before and after to see the gains and if I get 15-20rwhp and tq I'll be pleased.

I had mine coated even though they are stainless for looks because
the stainless will turn bronze a color and supposedly for suppressing
the heat.

Always have my headers coated. Keeps heat down in engine compartment and no burned plug wires. Gravy is they look tons better too!

Get'em coated inside and out. I use Paul Barry Motorsports in GA.
