Default HVAC Problem.....Maybe?

Just got done reading some of the HVAC Threads and it got me thinking if of a slight problem I have. So far ,knock on wood, with 53k on the clock, my Duel Climate Control still functions fine.......or does it? Is it normal for C5's to spew hot air on to your leg when you got the A/C off? It seems to coming from under the drivers side of the dash, along side of the torque tube tunnel. I haven't had a chance to pull the codes to see if it is in fact A/C related. I'm just wondering if maybe an actuator is not closing a flap or door and the heat from the engine is coming through duct work.

Is this normal or common for a C5 ?

Been working 12 hr night shifts and on my 8th one in a row without a day off so as soon as i get a chance I'll pull the codes to see if I have anything and i'll report back.
In the mean time, if this sounds like something one of you has or had can you please chime in ?

No, its not normal. First thing to do is change the airflow paths and see if it changes or not...defrost, lower, upper and recirc/MAX. If those paths do change, then pull your codes and post them. If the paths do not change, in the engine bay behind the intake manifold is a small black plastic line that feeds down to the passenger side behind the battery and through the firewall. That line is subject to cracking or acid issues.

You may want to confirm it is not just heat coming off the tunnel. It gets quite hot and many folks complain of it!

Thanks for the reply. As SOON as I get a day off I'll check it out along with pulling the codes.

Thats what I'm wondering

I only get this hot air when I have been driving it for a while and the Climate Control is off.
My C3 was great for this. You could roast in the summer inside if you didn't have the A/C on !

I think I may have my problem solved.
This was suggested to me over at the Corvette Mechanic Forum :

Tool Guy "If you have any car on fresh air from the outside mode, AC and heat off, it will pull ambiant air from the outside into the cabin. Ambient air and hot air from the engine.

Putting it in recirculation mode and it should stop that, unless of course the foam is indeed causing the flap door to stay open.

For example, if I hit my recirc button, AC off, it will stop the hot air from blowing in on my legs. "

So I gave it a try and guess what ? No more blast furnace temps on my leg.

I'll still pull the codes to see if it's anything related as soon as i get a chance !

Thanks for the help and suggestions Guys
