Any one using a stock torque converter?
Hi all! New member here.Is there a reason not to use the stock converter?I have a 2002 coupe with 2.73 gears,and would like to go to 3.42's.The car will not be raced, just used for cruising.Also considering a blackwing and corsa daytonas.What do you think?

I changed out the 2:73's to 3:42's without changing the converter. It's a good mod. I also run the car through the 1/4 mile occasionally and enjoy it.

I was in the same situation with my 2001 and I thought the same as you...just for a while. The fact is once you start modding you can't stop..at least most of us can't.
To answer your question...Yes,it's fine to change the gears only but you will need a PCM program and that will calibrate the shift pattern and speedometer and that will compensate for the new ratio gears. check out www.fastchip.com for Ed Wright programming. You should have your PCM back in a few days.
Personally I'm enjoing my car as much as I can..with all the performance mods. But I think I will stop with the perfomance mods for now and focus on the appearance mods instead. Good Luck:D
