Column Lock Solution
Recently, the "service column lock" message appeared on the DIC of my 6-speed manual transmission 2001 Corvette Coupe. The column did not disengage when I started the car, but after I shut off the ignition, pulled the key and restarted the engine the column unlocked. I was very fortunate not to get stranded far from home.
I wanted CF members to know how helpful the forum was in solving this complicated, frustrating problem. In particular, 8VETTE7 is probably the most knowledgeable person on Earth about this topic. Without his help, I never would have been able to unravel the mess.
The repair work was done at The Vette Doctors in New York which consisted of the installation of a column lock bypass and reprogramming of the PCM to prevent engine fuel shutoff. They were extremely professional, courteous and didn't rip me off. Kudos to Carmen and the boys at The Vette Doctors.

I was a Vette Doctors in Amityville yesterday to get the Column Lock problem solved (and some other issues) and many thanks to Carmine for his help and knowledge.
Also, 8VETTE7 helped me through the task of gettting the car going again so I could drive it to VETTE Doctors
