Gah! Shifter install help!

We first tried using a flat head screwdriver and liquid wrench.
Result: Broke the tab off one side of the pin.
We then tried a vise grip.
Result: Crushed the front and back edges of the pin.
We tried a vice grip and flat head screwdriver.
Result: Broke the other tab off the pin.
At this point, we took the stock shifter out, shift boot, handle and all. While Mike worked on installing his new shifter, I took to the grip with a razor blade and hack saw (heck, he was installing a new **** anyhow). After cutting the leather off the grip I cut the back off the shift handle. With the back of the pin exposed I was able to knock it out the back of the slot.
The end result: one messed up pin :D:
And a lot of shifter shrapnel:

The one problem? Mike didn't have his new shift **** yet. No problem, I made him a brand new, custom ****.
Delron is for pansy "professional" drivers, duct tape provides a much better feel! (Please don't pester me with orders, I haven't worked out pricing yet).

This reminds me of two important things to remember (authors unknown):
- If it doesn't move, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.
- Liquid Wrench and duct tape can fix anything. If it doesn't move and should, use Liquid Wrench. If it moves and shouldn't, use duct tape.
