I am wanting to lower my '98 vert that has F45 suspension(Real Time Damping). I guess I have 3 options(coilovers are not a option). I will also add that this is for looks mostly.
-Lower on stock bolts
-Aftermarket lowering bolt kit
-Change out shocks to C6 Z06 shocks, use lowering kit and disable f45
Unfortunately I would have to take my car somewhere to get the work done so a free mod such as lowering stock bolts would not be free for me. Since I'm paying money would lowering stock bolts be worth it? Are there any lowering kits that work with F45? Being a daily driver and just for looks, would new shocks be too firm/not worth the cost? I did take the car to the track and got it up to 120mph+ and the front felt a little floaty.
I'm trying to see what others have done and are happy with. Thanks
Here is how it sits now:
I to have a 98' with F45, I had a tuner disable the f45 added C6 Z06 shocks and lowered on stock bolts. I did all the work myself besides disabling the f45. I should have used a lowering kit as my car is not as low as I wanted it but, i'm satisfied. If your taking it to a shop, get ready to drop a pretty coin as a lowering kit is a bit more work to install than just lowering on stock bolts. That plus shock install, disabling F45, and a four wheel alignment will probably put you over $500. My only advice is to take it to a shop experienced in corvettes(lowering them of course) stay away from dealer. Heres a pic of my car lowered on stock bolts 19s front and rear 275 30 19 , 305 30 19.
I too had the F45 on my 99, I lowered on the stock bolts at first but my F45 shocks were creaking so I replaced with C6 Z shocks and C6Z sways the only issues I had was the C6Z shocks made the car sit a bit higher.
I've had my 2001 lowered on the F45 shocks for quite some time on my DD car. From stock height it appears lowered at least an inch all around. I'm happy with it for now until I go with coilovers later on.
I bought my '01 C-5 brand new, and for some crazy reason, ordered the F45 set up. I lowered "on the stock bolts" when the car was new, and 18,000 miles later, it's still good.....
