I'm not looking for windows files - I'd prefer a pdf file. I don't have a windowx box, nor do I intend to buy one in the immediate future. Besides, I didn't want to have to consider what would be the best search engine to look for pdf files and figured it would be easier and more entertaining to interact with other corvette owners on the forum.........
Real funny. Thanks. I've seen pdf versions on eBay, just not recently. Just curious if anyone has bought a copy. I DO NOT want a DVD that's written for Windows, but would be happy to recompense anyone who has a pdf version.

Dude, I'm an old UNIX gearhead-nothing wrong with windows-I'm typing this on a Windows 7 box. Get over the OS wars-it's all just BITS!
Your a teacher, you must have access to a Windows box-download the freebees and convert them to whatever you want. Eazy-peezie, even a caveman can do it!

I hear ya - just about everything I have, I've had to work for. I'm not a programmer but taught myself C on my first computer, an IBM workstation running AIX. Anyway, thanks for the response - it was appreciated but I still haven't been convinced that bits arrangement in windows is better than a unix-based one.

I've been a Systems Engineer for a LONG time, grew up on UNIX working for AT&T (the creator of UNIX). I like it a lot, the abomination on the Apple boxes makes me ILL compared to a real UNIX/Linux box. Even the GNU compiler is a mess on the MAC's. You couldn't give me a MAC (and my boss has tried several times)-the Win7 box I'm on now is 1/3 the price with more features and runs all the software I need/want with no issues.
I'm a teacher - math. My IBM/AIX was great running Mathematica. The PPC was/is a great architecture. I wasn't pleased when Jobs decided to drop IBM's Power architecture. Still, Mathematica runs great on my MBP. I don't have a C compiler on it, but the C compiler on the AIX wasn't cheap. (I still have it - the yankee in me refuses to throw anything away!) Which is why I switched over to Macs, I couldn't afford to play the AIX game for any length of time. I still have a G5 that uses the PPC chips (2.3GHz dual core) and it is still a pretty formidable machine, IMHO - apart from it not being able to run the latest applications written for Intel chips, the version of Mathematica that I run on it still is very quick and powerful. But, like I said before - I'm not a programmer and have only taught myself enough to be dangerous!
Put Redhat on an Intel box-I have some giant Oracle databases on them. Since MAC's are really Intel boxes anymore, the extra your paying for the MAC is all fluff for the EVIL Apple Empire.
I don't pay extra because I rarely buy new when it comes to either computers or cars. I bought my '08 15" MBP, last december used, for $600 - it came loaded w/software (Adobe, etc.) from the previous owner. I installed a larger HD and memory which still kept me well under $800. My 'vette is the same story - bought it from a junkyard and fixed it up - it was a very light hit in the rear but GM doesn't make the tubs anymore. I'm handy with fiberglass, so it was a very simple repair and the used parts just screw on - no welding involved, whatsoever - brilliant! Besides, doug, I don't think you can call Macs' an empire, yet - what's their %-age of computing mkt share? That being said, I wish I had listened to my own advice when I told friends, 7 years ago, they should be buying Apple stock. But I think there is a lot of truth in the argument that one pays extra for Apples' brand. I don't really need to buy another computer, yet - but when I do, I will take your suggestion seriously and consider Red Hat. I still am intrigued by the Power architecture and perhaps will, someday, try Red Hat on a used Power7 box.

Don't think they even make a distro for PowerPC. Try on an Itanium or higher.
Sorry zeevette - I'm really just killing time, rambling-on, while downloading the GM repair manual in .rar files. At the rate they're downloading (~150KB/sec), I should be finished by 7 pm.
Well, I've finally got all the .rar files downloaded, extracted to .iso, made a disk, and will have to wait until I go back to work (month) before I'll have access to the office windows box......what a pain this is. It should be pdf file - so much easier to work with.
