I have a new 2002 C5 Coupe and want to install the Corsa Indy Pro exhaust with a X-pipe or crossover pipe. Has anyone out there done this themself?
If so which X-pipe or crossover pipe is the easiest to do yourself as opposed to having someone do welding work? I see that Corsa offers a long crossover pipe so I am wondering if it is made to be bolt on with the exhaust system.
As far as I know, the Corsa stainless Xpipe is the only one that can bolt in and does not require welding. Installing the Corsa Xpipe and Corsa exhaust yourself is not too much of a problem at all. However, you have to get the rear up VERY high if you want to get the stock exhaust off without cutting it. Personally, I would just cut the junk stock exhaust off. Worst case you need to put the stock exhaust back on, just get it welded back together.
By the way, if you are interested in a good price on the exhaust and/or xpipe, drop me an email.
I've put the exact combo on my car as you're thinking about. I did the full install myself in my garage. I cut the over-the-axle pipes on my original equipment muffler system to get them off without having to lift the car more than about 14 inches. To Install the Corsa X-pipe, you do have to cut the existing pipes that are under the center of the car. Corsa recommends a "chain pipe cutter" as shown on their web site. I bought this tool and it works almost like magic. It made the job very easy. Once you cut the center pipes out, the new X-pipe slips on and is clamped down. The Corsa mufflers then bolt up to the X-pipe. You may need to fiddle with the joints in the system to get the tips to align properly. Get the tips right before you start to tighten up anything, including the X-pipe. I made the mistake of tightening up the X-pipe first and then couldn't get the tips to align no matter what I did. Loosening the X-pipe and twisting it a bit did the trick and now my tips align perfectly. Let me know if you have any questions.
