The car made 420 rwhp but it kept blowing the belt off so we called it a day. The tuner had a few hours into the tune and it ran pretty well but I never brought it back for a road test/tune so the shift points were a little sloppy. If you drove it like a normal person it road pretty well. If you were to wack it hard from a roll, a lot of times it would just immediately slam off the rev limiter. I hardly drove the car, maybe 700 miles.
Finally it happened, while cruising home on the expressway the trans wouldn't go into overdrive (I guess) and would not shift gears. I had to cruise home at 50mph and 3000 rps. Trans temp at 250*. I got within 2 block of my house and it thru a 2-3 trans shift code. Made sense so today I changed both solenoids, filter, and fresh fluid. Took it for a road test and it still will not shift out of 1st gear. Not even if I manually shift it.
Soooo, Is my next step to have the trans and converter gone thru ? What are the possible issues ?
Also there was a little bit of metal in the pan. Shavings not parts. LOL
well, the car is 12 or so years old, and A4s are known to fail, a bit weak to begin with and extra power can cause problems...how many miles on it? does it slip in other gears than 1st? or is it stuck in 1st? usually it will slip in 3rd and 4th if it's toast..If it's failed, get an RPM trans, about the same price as a rebuilt and much better for a mooded vette.....
btw - when mine failed it did the same thing as yours'!

Thx for the reply..
It slipped in any gear. Cruising at 50mph it would slip. Car has about 55k and only about 700 miles of it was modded for. Didn't last long at all.

Any suggestions would be welcome...
Be certain that WHEN you replace the tranny, get it tuned properly. That HP level with an auto, proper shift tuning is a MUST.......
First thing is to check the trans fluid level. I had a H/C job done and it immediately started to slip going into O/D. The trans fluid was "full" when the fluid temp was ~180 degrees. When checked at the proper fluid temp (IIRC 85 degrees - 120 degrees) I was 22 oz. low I topped if off at the proper temp and the slipping went away. Hope that helps.

Here it goes..... I pulled the trans and it was wrecked. Band and clutches were all toast. My trans builder went on RPM's site and viewed how they mod their transmissions and based my rebuild off of theirs. Since I bought the converter used I figured I'd have it cut open and checked for piece on mind. I slapped it all together and it leaked from were the torque tube meets the bell..
Pulled the trans & converter out. My guy tore it all apart and replaced the seals & checked all his work. He also brought the converter back to his guy who pressure tested it and he said it tested good..
Put it all back together and filled it up. Let it run on the jack stands for a little while and it was good. Took it for a test drive and it shifted like a million dollars, no leaks.. After about 1 mile of driving it began to leak again. My builder has built MANY of these transmissions so I know he knows what he's doing. He's done plenty of transmissions for 8sec/1000 rwhp cars but this is killing the both of us.
Where should we be looking?
Have the converter re-cut & re-welded?
Replace the pump and seals?
Check the line pressure ?
