Hi Folks:
I recently bought my 1998 Vert-existing oil type unknown. When I recently changed the oil, I put in Mobil Super 5000 (non-synthetic). That was about 150 miles ago. However, after reading through the forums it appears I should have put in Mobil 1 (synthetic). I know what it says on the filler cap, but that often doesn't mean much. I don't mind making the switch to Mobil 1 since I only plan to change it once a year (and want to do it right). Does anyone see any problem with switching it to Mobil 1? Your thoughts and/or concerns would be greatly appreciated!
use what the manufacturer tells you to use - they spent a hell of a long time thinking about what oil is best for your engine ( a lot more time than anyone on this forum).

Mobil Super 5000 is not rated what Mobil 1 is. Why not go with Mobil 1 with your next oil change?

They spent a long time going hey who is gonna sell us synthetic oil the cheapest. And then mobil raised their hand.

Not exactly true, as they had to have oil that would help a high performance engine, which they figured to be used as such, last through the powertrain warranty period. So it had to good!

Thanks, folks. Based on feedback, it appears no harm, small foul with the Mobil Super 5000for the few miles I put on it. I'll switch over to Mobil 1 tomorrow and going forward.
Cheers.
Just finished reading Corvette From the Inside. They did some testing of synthetic and normal oil and were surprised at the added cooling synthetic accomplished. For the small incremental cost you can't go wrong.

Unless you put the 150 miles on it 1/4 mile at a time you can just change to synthetic and be good to go.
Also conventional oil cant take the heat. If you run a stock thermostat coolant can get up to 235 or more. If conventional oil gets to 250 its ruined. Synthetic can take it. Also read somewhere GM decided to say use synthetic because it was cheaper then putting in an oil cooler.
Just so everyone know's synthetic oil and "conventional" oil are the same thing.Only God can make a molecule. A molecule of oil is a molecule of oil.All synthetic is is a base oil filtered for both dirt and any or most incomplete molecules. You know when part of the geometric shape is missing. These egdes create friction. Also by law at 50% complete they can legally call it full syn. The tenasity or stickyness for start up is another thing as well

Thank you for clarifying this, I had no idea there were missing goemetric shapes in my oil causing friction.
