Default Low Oil message driving me nuts!

Guess you could call this technical... Anyway, according to the DIC my oil level is still at 70% and checking the actual level it is still at max, but the darned low oil message keeps coming on. It comes on when starting the car, so I click reset to make it go away, but it comes back again and I keep having to do this. I thought I had seen a post about this before, but is it just going to be a pain and keep doing this? It has happened the last two tims when in the 70's - high 60's as well and just doesn't seem right.

For the first time last week I received that low oil level message on the DIC.

I checked the dipstick and it was about 1/4" below the bottom hole. I threw in a quart of the blue capped Mobil 1 (5W-30) and all is well. Oil life read 73%.

I had the oil and filter changed about 3,000 miles ago. I think they only added six quarts and not 6.5 quarts.

The low oil light has nothing to do with the oil life %.Either you are 1 quart or more low,or the low oil sensor is faulty (false message).By pressing "reset",you are only clearing the message on the DIC.Only the computor can clear the message for good,by not seeing the fault over a period of ignition cycles...In other words, you have to correct the fault :yesnod:

In some cases, the low oil message can be displayed after changing the oil or washing the vehicle (water on the engine) because the low oil sensor is looking at oil temp compared to coolant temp to detect low oil...

I had a similar problem, for one day, over XMAS when I visited my sister in Pa.

Parked the C5 on a slant, nose down, and when I started it I got the low oil warning. Since I had a slight oil leak, about half a qt over 3K miles, (since fixed under warranty) I threw half a qt in it, hit reset and started driving back to Va. 10 minutes later, low oil pops up. Pull into a shopping center and on level ground check oil level and it is fine even a little above the line

Wait five minutes or so check it again , still fine

Fire it up, reset and every 10 minutes the message pops back up - but I have oil pressure up on the DIC the whole time back and it looks fine. Stop again in Md at a rest area, check oil level both before and after restroom and it is still fine. Drive back the rest of the way hitting reset every 10 minutes. Park it at home in garage.

Next day start it up , no problem

I have not added any oil since that half qt in Pa and have not seen that message since.

I am attributing it to the probability that GM had a MICROSOFT :nopity programmer write the code that does the check thus explaining inconsistent results. :smash: :yesnod:

Perhaps it is faulty, when I had to get a new tire a while ago the guy who was working on the car said the low oil message came on, and this was like 1000 miles ago. Might be time for another trip to the dealer.

I had the same problem when I parked on a steep grade at RoadAmerica. The computer does not want to let go of the trouble code even if the oil is full. You can either go into the DIC trouble codes and clear it, or if it persists just diconnect the battery for several hours. Here is how to access the trouble codes. http://www.c5-corvette.com/IPC_Display.htm
