Take a look at my response to the "Air Filter Question" post yesterday(It's one page back).Looks like you both have the same question.

You might have the older Haltech TRIC cold air intake which has an aluminum tube which extends through the radiator shroud (required that a hole be cut) and the filter attaches with a clamp to the aluminum TRIC under the shroud. The filter acually lays against the center spoiler section.

I still have this set-up on my 1999 and if you raise the car up a bit in the front you not only can easily see the filter but can loosen the clamp and remove the filter for cleaning and then replace.

Jim Hall once provided me instructions on cleaning the filter and suggested spraying the filter liberally with a cleaner like Simple Green, wiating for about an hour and then using a forceful hose spray from inside the filter to wash away the dirt.

I'm sure there are filters around you could use and maybe even some of the 'wedge' filters originally provided with the set-up. I may even have filter here that you could use if you really need one, however, they are easily cleaned and if not damaged with holes and such that is what I suggest you do.

I hope this helps and feel free to contact me in the event you believe you have the TRIC set-up and need additional assistance.

Chuck

This is the other guy with the (maybe) same problem. Like I said I can see the filter through a small opening and can touch it but thats it. When i pulled my had back it was fairly dirty so I am sure it needs cleaning. I will try and get it up on a left and try removing that shroud. Thanks again Chuck (you have a beautiful car) and if Harvey or i find a solution please post it on one of the two threads.

FYI Message back from Jim hall to me ...

We no longer make those filters, but you might send a photo for a replacement.

If I'm not mistaken HALLTECH uses (or used?) filters made by S&B FILTERS in CA.

Many aftermarket companies use them because they can custom manufacture filters in blue or red media/oil, colored or chrome end caps, and specifications exactly to the customers needs (I believe K&N now offers this same service).

S&B FILTERS may be able to make you another filter if that's for sure what you need. Just tell them what it fits (HALLTECH "Trap") or send them the specifications. Better yet, send them the filter. Turn around time is very quick and cost isn't much more than a generic filter off the shelf at your nearest automotive parts vendor. They keep records of every custom made filter they make for customers. I had them make one to my custom specs for me a few years ago. It's model number is still on file.

It was mentioned above that you should be able to clean your filter. Are you opposed to that very simple procedure?

Here's the cleaning instructions from S&B FILTERS. It's similar to K&N FILTERS as both are oil gauze.
