Getting some mixed answers. Wanted to ask the pros. I have an 03, MN6, standard coupe. I know the recall on the column lock was done before I owned the car. A few months ago the column got stuck in the locked position. Did some wiggling and finally got it to move. Seems like the column lock motor is actually going out and just isn't moving the gears to unlock the column. So I have a couple options. 1) I can replace the motor, 2) I can just install the bypass, or 3) I can replace the motor and the bypass. What are your thoughts?
I know exactly what you are talking about. But I do know the motor on the CL is going out cause of the sound and how it's engaging. The battery is pretty new as far as batteries go. I think it's got less than 2 years on it. But could need a new one since I've done a lot of driving in the past 4 months. If the CLB will eliminate the motor then I'll just get the CLB and be done with it. Just wasn't sure if the motor had to be fully funtioning for the CLB to work since it's all on the same circuit. So I'll just go with that since the new motor is $250. I always do my own work so no way I'd let the dealer do it. I'll do a battery check also since it really doesn't hurt to do that either. But all in all I'll get the CLB and not have to worry about it.
On another note. I just moved to Denver from Washington DC. Was wondering if I need to do get the car programmed for the altitude?
