If the recommended break-in period for a new engine is 500 miles, I can't see how the break-in for rings would be any more than that.
Of course, I took it easy on mine for the first 500, then gradually turned up the heat until I did my first WOT-to-redline at 1,000. My car runs great but so do most of the ones that got used hard from the beginning.
I just had the #2 piston rings changed due to "higher than normal oil comsumption" problem. Is there any break-in period I should adhere to. [Modified by Andy_A, 5:33 PM 4/28/2002]

thats exactly what i wound up doing. 500 mi real easy, and then gradually turned it up till i hit 1000mi, at which point i wound it out to 6200rpm and 150mph. :D
btw, when i asked the service tech about breakin, he didn't seem to know for sure. i suggested 2500mi, and he said "uhh ... yeah, that's it! yeah, yeah, that's it! uh huh! yeah!" so i don't listen to him any more. heck, i don't even take my car there any more since i found Adam @ Russell Automotive. :)
