Default Left Fuel Pump Replacement on a 2004

Rumor is that on a 2004 Z06 you have to drop the tranny & differential to get to the left fuel pump. Is this true? Has anyone replaced the left pump on a 2004?

Thanks,
Chris Shay

Is the '04 that much different than an '02. Because my '02 Z06 was a snap to replace.

It's just the late 03's....and 2004-2011. The earlier models have the fuel pump at the bottom of the tank...very easy to get to.

Has anyone seen a write up on how to drop the diff, trans, & torque tube?

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, since I'm going to have to go this far, what else should I replace? I've had clutch sticking issues so I'm thinking a master cylinder and remote clutch bleeder. I can't upgrade my clutch due to class rules so I'll probably leave that alone. Any other thoughts?

Its not the master thats a piece of junk, its the slave that is a poor design, I would replace it.

I still would see if the dealer would cover it under the recall......seems like you had some problems with the crossover between tanks, maybe thats what started to cause the pump failure?

The dealer covered mine under the recall......and I had them throw in a C6Z fuel pump while they were in there

Hmmm....that's not what you stated the other day.

Just finding a conflict in what you previously stated yesterday, and what you stated today. If you have a problem with that, perhaps you should choose your words more carefully.

+1 for a new slave and a remote bleeder line... Check your torque tube bushings while it's out. Master cylinder does not require the removal of the drivetrain to replace.

I ordered a new slave and remote bleeder line. I'll take a look at the clutch and torque tube bushings.

How long to the torque tube bushings last? Is that something that I should just replace since it's appart?

Not sure how long they last, but I would. I've seen a lot of people talking about them being worn on here and mine were starting to look a little rough when I did my clutch swap. Since they're relatively cheap and very easy to do while everything's apart you might as well.

If you track your car at all you might consider upgrading to poly or aluminum on the rear. Not sure about this, but I don't think it's advisable to go with solid bushings on both sides...

Here's some reading for you:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...oday-pics.html - I know this one is long but look all the way through it. There's a ton of good info in there...

You don't have to remove it, but it will help to lower a few inches. I recently dropped the tank, and the hardest part was reaching the crossover connection. I've heard of people not dropping the rear, but they must really know what they're doing. When you pop the crossover, watch for the little o-rings as I had one go flying. Here's what mine looked like when I pulled the tank, just left the cradle on a jack.

You have to really be careful with the locking ring for the pump.

Not a cheap tool either.
