Default 2.73 gears and a power loader

Was wondering if 2.73 gears with a powerloader are equal or better in the 1/4 mile than 3.15 gears without a PLII. I am going to the track for the first time and was wondering what kind of times i'll run. My mods are in my sig below. I am sending my PLII back to Steve for a reprogram for 3.42 gears and a Pro torque TC. But until then I was wondering about the performance I currently hAVE. Are the 2.73 really that bad with the PLII added to the car.

That was my first move back in the day, it really woke up the car, but I never took it to the track! My next move was 3.42's, wow I head for the track and ran a 12.88. Steve Cole has done all of my programming.

I understand the gears are bad and that is why I am changing them as soon as the PL II gets reprogrammed. My original Question still stands are the 2.73 as good as 3.15 without the PLII. I would think yes since most say the PLII will cut 2 to 3 tenths off 1/4 mile time and GM claims a 1.5 tenth of a second difference between the gears stock.

3.15's will take a 2.72 with a PL everytime.

Well, im prolly the only one that likes the 2.73's. They are perfect for N20 Use. They really help getting out of the hole without spinning on street tires. My times and mods are in sig, and all are with the 2.73's. Also, for a street car, the 2.73's make it easy to launch and get ahead of a faster car while they are still spinning. Your 2.73 with a pl2 should beat a stock 3.15 car.

Just my .02

Well maybe. My brother inlaw has an 02 35th anniversary camaro with 3.42 6 speed and ls1 and I beat him out the hole and through the 1/4 mile. He cant stop spinning the tires. That's why I am asking this question. I wish we could get some times of 3.15 gears in the 1/4 and some 2.73 powerloaded times. I will be posting my times later this week. So we will see. :chevy

Road Warrior has the 3.15's with a PL and he is consistently running 12.70's with a best of 12.71.

That's a good time. I had hoped to be around a 13.1 with my car now and around a 12.7 with the 3.42 gears.

Before I had it Powerloaded those 2.73's were a bit annoying ....now it's just right for cruising and with the roads wet around here some of the time it keeps the 'Trac-contrl-active' off the screen

Golfman,

Some recent information seems to indicate that perhaps Steve is back on the ball again so hopefully you will get your re-programmed PII back in a reasonable time.

In the meantime you will absolutely love the 3.42 gears if you decide to get them. I did not get a TC when I had the gears installed since I would have some serious traction problems with the stock runflats and I do not want to replace these.

I just purchased my PII from Exit 28 and hope to have it in about two weeks. Since I have already done the gears and air intake, I am not planning on any more mods so the PII should be programmed for everything I need.

I am shooting for a 12.8 1/4 track time in late May as my goal. It is not easy to break into the 12's without heads and cams or at least a TC but I am hoping with my present setup I will able to do it.

Good luck when you go to the track and be sure to let us know how you do.

I would really like to hear this information since NO ONE can get through to Mr. Cole for months.. I even asked Exit 28 to call and Richard got no response  I don't know what's happend to Steve priorities but it certainly hasn't been his loyal customers that have stood by him and promoted his product over the last few years on this forum...It's a shame :(

Buckmaster and Vstella,

Maybe Steve is catering to new orders which is why most of the people getting new PII's are receiving them in about three/four weeks weeks. Perhaps he is not taking care of his existing client base who are pleading with him for re-programming changes. Obviously, this is not right.

As to the information I have seen regarding a better response time from Steve, it appears to be only in the case of new orders particularly through Richard at Exit 28. I know you guys have already abandoned your efforts to receive your PII's back reprogrammed from Steve Cole and have gone with Steve Wright Editing. It is too bad you couldn't get the assistance from Steve Cole that you needed.

As I once said in a post on a different string, if you are done with your Mods or are certain that you know specifically what mods you plan to do with no changes in the future, then the PII is a great way to go especially if you have the A4. I for one, am looking to forward to receiving mine.

Enjoy and good luck
