I'd like a little more steering effort at lower speeds. Anyone know a way to disable or bypass the "Magnasteer" aka speed sensitive steering? Don't get me wrong, I like the power steering, just not all the extra boost at slower speeds.
The shop manual, which has been proven to be in ERROR, says that there is a re-program adjustment
possible to do what you are suggesting. There is no adjustment.
I have studied the shop manual re the system, and if you just pull the plug, the system defaults
to MAX boost, exactly the opposite of what you want. I figure that hard-wiring 12 volts to the
connector plug should work as you want. I don't really think there is all that much difference
between MAX and MIN boost, at least not enough to make it worth the trouble.
I know that the service manuals can have errors but you can control the steering effort in three modes. It can only be done by using a GM Tech2 scanner that the dealer has.
Steve is correct about the error, I saw a post once where GM admitted the C5 does not have, and has never had, any way to reprogram the steering force.
The Service Manual is simply wrong, along with it's comments about an oil cooler in the radiator tank (does not exist) , and 140 lb/ft for lug nuts (should be 100 lb/ft)
