Default VATS key pellet reads ZERO...

So what's the deal? I went to measure the resistance on my key pellet to order a spare and I get absolutely nothing on the multi-meter (and yes I'm using it right ).
Could this mean that the VATS has already been bypassed in the BMC by one of the previous owners? The car is 13 years old and this is definitely the original key.

Hey Scott. How's it going buddy? :

Try to measure again. When I measured mine, I put one probe on the little piece of metal in the middle of the black insulator on one side of the key, and the other probe on the little metal piece on the opposite side of the key. Takes about three hands unless you have a small vise.
First time I ever tried it, I used to think the black part was the "resistor" but it's not. It's an insulator. The switch "reads" against both sides of that little metal piece when the key gets inserted.

Btw, the headliner swap went OK and is doing well.

I had the same issue it's easier if someone else holds the key. I bet you are hitting the insulator.

Based on the title of this thread, and your statement above, I'm not sure you are using it right(or know how to read/set) the meter.

If you truly read "zero", ( reading resistance)this would suggest a direct short, with no resistance at all.

...but....you also state you get absolutely nothing, which would indicate an open.....or infinite resistance.

So which is it? Open, short, or you're not using the meter correctly.

If youre using a battery operated multimeter make sure youre using fresh brand name alkaline batteries.
