Default Power upgrades

The first of next year I am going to beef up my car a little. It already has a CAI and a street tune. Its an A4 with 2.73 gears. Looking to do headers and a very small camshaft. Trying to get 340 hp at the wheels. I dont want it to chop. Any recommendations? Yes the 2.73s are long legged but They are not as bad as people think at least not to me, thanks in advance.

So getting 340 to the wheels would put you at about what the LS6 (Z06) would be. So adding the headers, plus a cam that replicates the LS6 grind (or even just putting in an LS6 cam), the LS6 intake manifold (if yours does not already have that as you did not mention what year your A4 is) with MAF and Throttle body, 243 heads (again if yours is not already so equipped), and the Ti cat back exhaust should get you there. I am sure others with more experience will add in also.

Intake, headers and tune alone will get you to 340rwhp. Cam and heads have potential to add much more.

You don't neccesarily have to go tiny on the cam, just get one a wide lobe seperation, a 111 or 112 with just about any duration will have noticable chop to it. You could do a cam in the mid to high 220 duration range on a 116-118 LSA and it'd be smooth.

I think you're leaving a lot on the table for seat of the pants feel with those gears though. You say it's not that bad but if you switched to 3.42's you might think the other mods unneccessary at least until you get used to it and want more

The 243 heads came on the Z06 (LS6) and flow better than the 241's that came on the LS1. As a 2004 you should already have the LS6 intake manifold on the engine.

Get something like a TSP 228R on a 114LSA and you will be stealthy, no chop. With the headers and CAI plus tuning you should be well over 350 RWHP. With an A4 I don't thing headers an tune alone will get you to 340. Headers can pick up maybe 40Hp and the A4s tend to have around 290 RWHP stock. Catback gains you nothing in the way of HP. On the 2004 you already have an LS6 intake, no need to change the throttle body unless you go to a FAST. I have 3.42 gears, if I did it over again, I would have gone with 3.73 gears.
