Default Slipping trans code

Sold my 99 coupe with 8600 miles and new owner is getting a trans slipping code with a warning light. Dealer can't diagnose the issue and basically wants a blank check. Anyone have a clue what this might be? Fluid is new and the car never gave me problem before. I'm a little perturbed at the new owner as be lives in PA and I was in Carlisle, but he wouldn't even drive over to have it diagnosed on my dime. Help....

Be sure to check the fluid level when the fluid is at the proper temp. Service Manual states that the fluid must be between 86F and 122F when checking level.
When I had my H/C installed the fluid was checked hot and was full. The trans slipped. I checked at the correct temp and found I was 22 oz. low. I topped it off and no more slipping.

Hope that helps.

Has he cleared the code ?? How long since he bought the car ??
Even at 11 years old, you shouldn't need to open the trans until 80,000 miles or more, even for fluid.
And.........of course the dealer can't wait for your OK

He bought the car two weeks ago. A Chevy dealership cleared the code and it returns, bit does not engage "safe mode". The code is P1870 and the car has a true odometer of 8600 miles. All fluids are clean and new. I only drove the car 2600 miles the last 2 years. Hello,VetteDoctors...are you out there and can you advise?

why did you change the trans fluid ?? I was going to change mine, at 30,000, but I was advised not to. I know that if it isn't filled with the correct amount, and at the correct temperature, by someone qualified, then it can cause slipping.
You might watch Two Guys Garage on Speed Channel for the three C5 Corvette episodes. Number 3 (episode 225) has them changing the fluid and filter on the transmission.

Changed it when I bought it two years ago. Never had a problem with it.
