My 99 coupe has both Traction Control / Active handling and I can switch to Competitive Mode only when the vette is at a stop. I got the idea that newer C5s can swith to comp mode while the car is moving. Can mine be upgraded to switch on the go? I got to know?
Re: Traction Control / Active Handling? (lostsoulny)
prolly not from what i understand the new systems are also different. they have different components.
It COULD be done but the cost would be VERY prohibitive. The newer system is more then just a software change, most of the sensors and components would need to be replaced as well, big, nasty job. I wish I could get the new system on my C5, the g/f has it on her new one and it is less intrusive and switching to Comp. mode on the fly is nice! :yesnod:
Re: Traction Control / Active Handling? (99SilverC5Coupe)
Unfortunately, you cannot change the requirement to be stopped when placing the car in Competition Mode on the first generation Active Handling system.
There is one solution for you though... we make a product called the TracActive Controller. It will automatically place the car in Competition Mode when you start the engine. You can also have it turn off TC/AH or remain passive. The Deluxe model even clears the "Competition Mode" message from the DIC!

Re: Traction Control / Active Handling? (Mike Schriber)
Mike's product is a good one...thinking about installing it myself. One thing you should know though, is first generation Active Handling cars (late 1998-2000) must be stopped to enter Competiitive Driving only when the five seconds times out. In other words, if you're rolling up to a stop sign and will be stopped in about 4 seconds, push the button. The car will enter Competitive Driving about 1 second after you are stopped. Second generation cars (2001-2002) can enter Competitive Driving on the fly.
