I just broke the "flange" on the nose of the power steering pump pulley trying to get it off. I'm using the "clamshell" two-piece in a sleeve style puller and half of the flange just pulled off. This pulley appears to be made of cheap powdered metal or something...
I did some searching. Apparently the C6 pulley is much stronger and allows access through the pulley to the bolts that mount the pump, and will work on the C5 pump.
I've also read elsewhere that the C6 accessory drive is in a slightly different place than the C5's, like 3mm backward or something like that. If this is the case, does the C6 steering pulley cause a belt alignment issue on the C5, or did the whole location of the pump change and the pulley to pump fit is the same?

That pulley is an LS2 OEM piece that's a direct "plug-n-play" replacement for the LS1 plastic piece. As you said, it's metal and has spokes which allow easy access to the pump bolts if you ever need to and last I checked sells for less than $20.00.
Btw, ummm I think the LS2 is a "C6" engine last I checked.
Well, to get the F#@K!N() pump off I drilled a hole through the pulley with a hole saw, something I read another member had done. This gave me access to two of the three bolts, but one of them is a little farther out tham the other two and I had to get a wrench in there to get it out. Not fun.
I've ordered a C6 pulley and I'm sure that it will work just fine as many have suggested. No fancy billet stuff for this old girl... I think the bling factor would cause some sort of automotive allergic reaction to the part - it would be the only clean looking thing under the hood!
I see your car has the same problem I had. The pressure hose appears to be leaking. Mine was leaking - actually weeping right through the rubber hose. I had a used spare and stuck it on to keep driving the car on the weekend and it did the same thing.

You sure about that? Did you slowly lose PS oil, like maybe needing to top it up each oil change? Mine leaked 3 summers before it got bad enough that I pinned the leak on that hose.

Yeah that was all engine oil blown back there by the fans. The PS system isn't leaking yet.
If that is PS fluid on the hose it is because it leaked when I removed the reservoir.
On advice I read here, after much searching, I bought one for an '05 and up to install on my '00 when I did my dampner. About $25 at the dealer without my sometimes discount. I believed that maybe the plastic was was part of my belt squealing problem. Maybe was, maybe not, but I changed it anyway.
I just broke the old one and unbolted the pump. The newer one had three large holes in it and it's metal.
One thing I somehow didn't get right was I missed getting in on by about 1/8". It sucked because it's a pain to get the installation tool back on it with the brake module in the way. So... make sure you get it back on in the correct location.
Seems like an expensive piece of equipment... what did you notice as improvements after installing yours? Is this simply a "ported and polished" rebuilt OEM pump, or is it a different and superior pump design?
Any idea what an OEM replacement pump costs? I haven't priced one out.

Interesting... my PS reservior is low, maybe my system is leaking too. I didn't check before getting everything covered in coolant. Is the high pressure hose the common point of failure in the PS system? If it is I would like to replace it while I have the car apart. I imagine it would be a bugger of a job with the car together!

Call and talk to the folks at Turn One.
There is a reason that NASCAR race teams use a steering pump, steering rack, and/or steering gear from a small, family-owned Michigan company.
I agree 100%. I used the Turn One pump on my 98 WS6 with the LS1 to reduce the amount of fluid being pumped at high speeds. If you track your car at all it helps with the fluid temps. I never even noticed the difference in town with the reduced flow.

Yes. It is.
A P/S pressure hose can see well over 1000 psi when the wheels are turned all the way into the "stops" and the relief valve opens in the pump.
