I have a 98 convert c5 ( no need to say that ) I have had issues with the car having dual temps on the a/c even though bot are set for max cooling. Should i look at the control unit or go deeper into the system?
You are just saying you have issues, not saying exactly what issues you are having? It seems you have the auto HVAC with dual controls but know that only the driver's control changes the temperature display. The passenger side control only alters the temperature on that side by over-riding the driver's side command therefore resulting in a slightly higher or lower temperature on the passenger side. Also know that the sunload sensor on top of the dash pad will also over-ride the settings based upon which side of the car the sun is shining on, only in attempt to insure the temperature remains set. The example being if the driver has the sun on them, passenger in the shade. The HVAC will attempt to balance out the temperature for both sides for comfort.
I agree with dgrant3830. Please provide specifics so we can help - set ***** to X, mode to Y, and get unexpected result Z.
You mention dual temps and "max cooling" which may be as simple as low refrigerant if one or both sides are blowing warm air. You may also want to pull your codes (hold Options, press Fuel 4 times) and post them up here to see if the car's modules know of any problems.
There have also been numerous threads on various HVAC issues, so you may want to search for similar faults.
Sorry, I had problems with the unit even coming on at times, when i would select the a/c button the light would blink several times and then go back off! when i could get it to come on and remain,it would only blow heat!~

You may not have any codes related to blowing warm air, but it doesn't hurt to check. The A/C light will go back off if the compressor is not being engaged. It can be disengaged for a number of reasons including under/over pressure or outside temperature. Since you are blowing warm air, I'm guessing the low pressure cutoff is preventing the clutch from engaging. You probably want to get an HVAC pressure gauge if you don't have one. With A/C off, mine is usually above 60psi on both sides. This guy will let you view high & low sides simultaneously, and fill thru a 3rd port.
Way under-charged begs to ask the reason - why? When did it last work, and was it performing properly or "just barely". A sudden failure may indicate rapid leakage, which will simply recur if you just charge it up.
If your pressures are OK, then you may have an electrical issue or a failed pressure switch. Please let us know, and we can provide further troubleshooting.
