Just purchased a 1998 Corvette that collected water on the passenger side and corroded the fuse panel and BCM. I am new to C5 Corvettes and have couple of questions:
1) Are the fuse panels interchangeable from 1997 to 2004 or do I need to get a fuse panel from a 1998?
2) I see "refurbished" BCM's on the internet. Are these reliable or should I just get a new one from the dealer?
Contact Gene Culley at www.gmpartshouse.com for the fuse panel interchangeability. As for BCM's, they are getting scarce. The BCM is coded for security so just throwing another one in there won't work. You'll need to perform a security relearn procedure which is only part of the process. Next, you'll need a Tech 2 to allow the programming of the RPO codes. If I was you, with the battery disconnected, pull the BCM out. Ground yourself for static then open the BCM. Using a q-tip and alcohol, clean everything in it. Put it back in and hook everything up, then lastly the battery. No clue if it will start or not but at a minimum, pull the codes from the DIC, write them all down, then clear each and all of them, then run the codes again and see what comes back.
I've never seen a refurbished BCM yet. Personally, I would want a new one if I could find one. Years ago, I did find a new one on the auction site and purchased it. I sold it to another forum member who needed one badly and it worked perfectly for him.

I just this past month, purchased a remanufactured BCM from a Chevrolet dealer. I can't remember the exact price, somewhere @ $250 I think. You will need a dealer or someone with a tech II to program the new one. On mine, I took the BCM apart and brushed off the crud with a toothbrush and wiped down with wd-40 and wiped dry. Then I dryed it thoroughly with a hair dryer. Let it sit overnight and reinstalled it and it came back and is still going strong. So if you feel adventurous, you might give it a try first. Good luck!!! [And have that water leak fixed!!!!]
