Default Leak between trans and transaxle what seals?

Hi my friend has a 99 C5 with and automatic. His car is leaking differential fluid between the transmission and the differential. It is a very small leak and is coming out of the little hole between the serial numbers on the bottom where they bolt together so I am going to replace the differential seal and wanted to replace the transmission output seal as well while I had it apart. I have been trying to research the part numbers for the seals before we pull it but I am having a hard time figuring out exactly what I need and trying to figure out what GM calls them. I have called the dealer and he is just as confused as I am. I already have the two output shaft seal numbers 88996703 and the o-ring seals 89047953 and sealant number 89021677 which I have done before on other cars. What I am having a hard time figuring out is what the part numbers are for the the transmission output shaft seal and the seal for the differential where the transmission output shaft goes and if there are any other seals I need that I am unaware of. I have been able to find a couple of part numbers for the differential but I am not sure if they are the right ones. they are 24228816 center shaft seal and o-ring number 12369456 but I haven't found anything on the transmission seal. I am sure some of you guys have already concord this job and I was hoping you could help point me in the right direction. Any help would be appreciated....Thanks Rick

Scroll down on the left side of this page, where it says Sponsored Adds, till you come to transmissions.
There you will see RKT56.com Drivetrains.
Send Rick Kim a messege or call in regards to the problem leak you are having.
He is a great guy & will help you out with any & all concerns/questions.
Good luck.

I called Rick and you are right he was very nice but as WKMCD said he only does Manuel transmissions. He suggested going to the dealer and actually looking at a blown up picture of the assembly. I was going to try to get them ordered to have them by by this weekend but I might have to wait until I can go look at the pictures to make sure I have the right parts...Thanks

I'm pretty sure that you have the correct #'s.
The tranny center-shaft seal (old #) 24207010 (present#)24228816
The Seal plate O ring #12369457

The #'s you posted for the diifferential axle seals & side cover o rings are correct also.

No need to wait. Go here. Don't put in the VIN, but instead drill down at the top by Make, Year and Model. It's got everything you'll need to see.

Thanks for the info. I looked it up on the link you gave me and found the transmission and found the seal part number which was the right one but it said the image for the differential was unavailable. I looked under all the C5 years for the differential but they all said the same thing. I am pretty sure I have the right numbers. I am just going to go order them and look at there pictures to make sure. P.S. thanks for that link I am going to save it. It has a lot of good information on part numbers...Rick

Try this link - isn't what you're looking for on the 5th and 6gth image down? This is for a 99 (what I have) but it should be exactly the same for all automatics, regardless of model year. And yes, it is an awesome site, isn't it!

You were right I went back and looked again and I found it. I was looking at the transmission to differential pictures for the seals and didn't realize there was a separate picture for the differentials. I am still a little confused on two of the seals it shows on the transmission the output shaft seal seems to be the same part number for the transmission and the differential 24228816. I am not sure if it's the same seal from two different views that they share or if the trans and diff both have there own seal with the same part number. I also found an auto trans case seal 24008660 and I am not sure if we need that to. I am going to the dealer today to try and get them ordered. Hopefully we can get it figured out. I just don't want to get the car all taken apart and end up not having all of the seals we need to fix the leak. If the other seals aren't to much I might just order them to make sure we have what we need. We only have the rack for that day. Once we take it apart I am sure it won't take long to figure out. Thanks again for you help. At least now I have an idea what we will need.

What color is the fluid? The trans fluid will be red and the differential fluid is brownish(gearoil).

It's gear oil. I have never seen one leak there before so I was kinda surprised myself. All of the ones I have fixed in the past were either leaking from the side cover o-ring seals or the axle seals. Went and ordered the parts today. Ordered everything just in case. We can take back any seals we don't use as long as we don't open them.
