Are you going to do some major mods soon, is that why you decided to upgrade the timing chain? I haven't heard any issue with the stock ones on modded cars yet. Sometimes I wonder how much abuse they can take.
Yea, my local buyer backed out on the parts I was selling so I figured I might as well install it. I got great deals on everything so if I had to buy it all again I'd spend even more money. There have been quite a few people that have the timing chain break (stock ones), MellowYellow and SeanR, and both did lots and lots of engine damage :(. I'm all about safety :)
Katech makes only bullet proof product,I'll blow some thing up with you if it goes bad.Its the only chain we use on Hi-output motors at Nates.WE are now in Partnership in advertising and installation and repair of Katech motors and we love them.Dave S.
I used that chain, it looks nearly the same but the links are fatter. I also used the Cloyes gears, not for the adjustability but because I read they're slightly oversized to take up slack.

Re: I got my Katech Timing Chain. (C5Noir)
Ironically, on the advice of MelloYellow, just 1 month before his chain broke and crapped out his engine, i had this same C5R timing chain installed in my baby when it was apart for heads/cam this time last year. I figured a little insurance for a small premium!:D
111 bucks is cheap insurance, how hard is it to install. What would a quality shop charge to install it? How long does it take to do, I already did my h&C and I don't have the know how to do it myself, thanks
It's worth every $$$ My stock chain broke causing $4K of engine damages. The good thing that came out of the disaster was that I had a new engine built instead of repairing the old one :D

AVETTE, to install the timing chain is pretty tedious after you've done the H/C install. They have to drop the steering rack and remove the crank pulley then they have access to the timing cover where the chain is.
It's def worth it. Most of the strength comes from the change in metal used going to Stainless Steel. The Katech is just slightly thicker. Same length as stock.
Gonna measure stock gears vs. Cloyes to see if the cloyes is any larger to take up slack or has diff teeth. May or may not be worth it to change the gears.
Had one in my hands for 1 month trying to get it installed, then my stock one broke with the Jwis in my hand.. :(
Cloyes supplys a STOCK chain with their gears. Thats why Katech sells the Cloyes + JWIS chain together. The rollermaster/SLP sounds promising, but I didnt want to space out my oil pump.
