Who says it doesn't fit an 04? Was there a dramatic change between 02 and 04?

So this isn't necessarily true "Found 12561688 but it says it doesn't fit an 04"

So you think there was a change from 03-04?....doubtful.

I know...... Just don't know why every site I have been to tells me that 12561688 is for 97 - 03 ????????????????? Hate to order wrong part. I had to pay $ 100.00 tow bill to get the car home today. I sure don't want to order a part just to find when it gets here it's wrong.

Corvettes are Chevrolet's. They are not high end luxury automobiles and they were priced accordingly. Sounds like you got one that had some minor issues. The good news is like the original cost, fixing them is relatively inexpensive. Every price Porsche parts? Those cars are better built than Vette's but cost way more.

As far as the early cars, the C5 has way more content than C2's and early C3's. In order to save weight and cost, GM uses plastic (as do every car manufacturer) and other less costly materials. You can't compare a modern car to an older one and expect everything to be the same.

The front t mount is different on the 04. I have replaced cable on my 04 and a friend's 02.
Part number of 04 is 10352529. You probably find it for a reasonable price on eBay of Amazon.
It's a bit of PITA to install.

My benchmark for quality is rattles. My 33k mile C5 has none. My 100k Passat has none, and has needed NO work except recalls, oil changes, tires, and 1 set of brakes. Every 60's-70's car I ever owned had several annoying rattles. How did those C3 points work out? I will put up with most any mechanical ills but rattles? No. Oh, and GM, Ford, and Chrysler '80s peeling paint. Gone by the C5.
