My brake pads have been making a little more noise lately so I thought I would bed them a little more to see if that would help any. I was driving the car hard for about 2-3 miles of heavy throttle and hard braking but I've driven harder without any problems. Then after a little while I get a warning on the DIC that says High Trans Temp or something like that and after I cleared it I noticed the temp was at 255  I have never had this happen to me before and I was really suprised it came on that quick into an aggressive drive. I pulled into a car wash and used the high pressure hose to cool down the rearend/trans area and when I got back in it had cooled down to around 215ish and went down to around 200 by the time I made it home. What can I do to keep this from happening again? Change the trans fluid  The car has 40K and I don't think it has been changed yet so I'm going to have it done anyway but will it fix the problem? Also how hard is it to change the trans fluid in an A4?
I would definately change the fluid just a as a basic maintence concern but it won't help much on the fluid cooling issues unless your fluid is breaking down.
Buy yourself a good tranny cooler. On a stock trans with small converter the basic B&M coolers work fine. They run about $30-40 and can help you drop about 20deg or better. Check with some of the other guy sfor fitment issues so you know what size to purchase.
I use a race cooler in my T/A with a 4400 stall and I NEVER see above 190deg even after back to back passes on a hot day. Then again I spent $150 on the cooler so it better damn well work. ;)
