I've installed the F55 shocks on my C5 coupe and after a couple of months, the shocks have developed a squeak. It sounds like it is coming from the rear shock (or shocks) but what is odd is that it ONLY occurs when the shocks are in their 'soft' setting. The squeak completely disappears in the Sport/Performance setting. I would think that if something were rubbing the frame (or whatever) it would surely make a sound in either setting but this very noticeable squeak, under very normal driving conditions, only shows itself when the shocks are in the soft setting.
My F45s do the exact same thing! I was wondering if there is a wipe seal on the shock shaft that that is dried out. I am thinking of drilling a small hole in the shock shaft cover so I can get a oil can in to put a few drops of oil on the shaft.
Mucho grass for the informative response although I was looking for a silver bullet solution. I don't think that I am going to replace the $2K shocks that I just installed however. It does make me wonder if one of them is the cause since I don't seem to hear any squeak in the front. Regardless, I am now educated and find this forum to be an absolute gold mine.
I had a squeak from the rear shock on my car, Z51 with Z06 shocks, not sure if the F45/F55 shocks are of the same design. One of the "hats" on the shock had backed off a little, allowing the shock hat to move around and make some noise. It would disappear when there was a load, pulled the shock off and torqued it down, problem solved.
