From what you're saying though, it sounds like the clutch fingers are getting caught against the disc. The metal shavings, and the car rolling backwards and getting stuck are pretty much dead giveaways to that. The grinding noise you're describing is more than likely coming from the fingers making contact with the disc as well.

I've seen this happen multiple times, mainly when one or more of those fingers get broken off (maybe the strips of metal you found?), and the clutch starts over-extending into the disc, or with the aforementioned broken clutch disc springs stopping said fingers from pushing as far forward as they are supposed to, not letting letting the clutch engage completely. It might be tough to tell which is happening without actually removing the clutch from the car, but it definitely fits the bill for one, or maybe both. Both these conditions would also cause the grinding you're describing as well.

There is a plastic sleeve deal on the slave as well, so you're guess of the plastic coming from there is probably correct.

I know we're all kind of speculating here, seeing as you're the one laying under the car, but everything at this time points to some kind of mechanical (not hydraulic system) clutch failure.

sounds like I'm going to have fun when the clutch assembly bolts come out

Thanks everyone for your help, I've ordered basically everything in the bellhousing to replace as it sounds like something chewed a lotta stuff up. I'll let you know what happens once it comes apart.

Well I got back from the engine shop, bad news. The Previous Owner brought the car to a shop(will remain unnamed until I contact them) in Florida who did a flywheel replacement in '08. When the clutch was removed from my car, we found this:

These bolts were not even CLOSE to the right bolts, when I put one into the crank it wobbled around loosely.

Compared to the new GM specified bolts(white)

They are smaller in diameter and shorter than the required bolts.

I'm now looking at a large repair bill for the clutch+flywheel+rear main seal +slave cylinder and wont know till saturday if the flywheel killed my crank and or bearings and I can't afford to replace the engine, I have a wedding in July and I'm still in university . I'm now officially upset and shocked as if those last 2 bolts snapped that flywheel could have done some serious damage in the cab...

Damn... Glad you found it before the other two bolts broke.
