I'm still on my OEM alternator at 325,000 miles. Not sure how much longer it'll last but still good for the moment. Did you check the connections at the starter solenoid yet?
Look at the alternator and make sure you got the right one.
Who is this dealer you mention? Chevrolet dealer, used car dealer, street corner dealer. I know a lot of dealers....I'm just trying to help, look at the alternator and make sure it's a Valero, made in France,
part #10246634 14V - 110A.
If this turns out to be your problem, you owe me a beer.
Now as long as I've had my '99, forever, I've only had one charge system fault issue with it and that was immediately before the positive battery post, fell off the battery and starting dumping acid. Fortunately I was standing in front of it trying to figure out the charge system fault message when this happened. I know for a fact that the C-6 alternator, is commanded by the PCM on how much to charge but there is an internal regulator to limit the voltage of course. On my C-6, it runs anywhere from 13.1(heavy load) to 14.5 (light load and super cold temperature). On my C-5, it runs anywhere from 13.8-14.3. I do not know if the C-5's alternator is commanded by the PCM or not.
