Had LG street headers w/cats installed on my 02Z last week. Here is my impression of the install, performance & sound. These were mated up with the stock TI exhausts.
The main reason I wanted headers was I had put on a VR + PD + Halltech screen about a year ago,so intake was greatly improved over stock,so I wanted to improve the exhaust flow as well.
I gave the shop( good local shop) the only install instructions that LG had, which was for Pro headers.I think some of the instructions were confusing and the shop had to take both old headers out from the top…removing the starter was not covered by the instructions and caused a snag.
The pipes themselves looked to be of high quality and the clamps were good too.Seems LG has fixed the bad clamps they had a few years back.
The car has better throttle response and the sound is very different. It’s not so much louder thru the back pipes, but the sound inside the car is very noticeable. It has no leaks and I guessing the additional in-the-car-sound is normal header rumble.
While we were at it,Installed new TR5 plugs( gap.045),Koolsox and new drive belts.
The only code I picked up was PO133,Slow Response Bank 1 sensor 1-B.
Not sure why you had remove the starter but I know I had to remove the coils and alternator to install mine, other than that the hardest part was getting the old manifolds out.
Btw the clamps that came with mine were not sufficient, but then again I got the pro system so the pipes may have been thicker or something.
Yes, get the tune - probably 15 more HP and much better throttle response just waiting to get out. LGs are a great product.
If you're ever under there peering around, check the O2 sensor wire routing. In the LG install I did we drilled a hole in the tunnel panel to keep them well away from any heat or rubbing.
I've heard that adding headers and HF cats will give the Ti mufflers an enhanced midrange Ferrari sound, even at part throttle. Did you notice a change there, at about 2500-3000 RPM?

Like other member wrote,a dyno tune would get the maximum of your setup and would clear the code. You change the position of the o2 sensors wich create a delay in the sensors response to the pcm.The tuner will adjust that too.
It's quite possible with hi-flow cats you will still get codes from the rear O2 sensors even after a tune. the simple fix is for the tuner to turn off those sensors - they only check for cat performance and have no effect on the tune or the running of the engine at all. most do it routinely, but you should ask them to, to be sure they do.

I dont have cats on my system and it is the 3 inch system too but I would not call it a Ferrari sound at all, its just a nice deep sound.
I think it just sounds nice and aggressive, I dont know how the Ti's sounds from the factory though.
