Does anything light up on your unit or is it just the display?

the only light that comes on it the pass side ****, and the orange blinking lights when you turn the unit on. the a/c button just blinks maybe five times then turns off?

Have you checked to see if you have any codes?
Also the display is a fairly easy fix, all you have to do is re solder some surface mount resistors.

Its fairly easy to pull the codes, all you have to do is turn the ignition on and clear any messages that are on the DIC then hold down options and press fuel 4 times. It will then scroll through any and all codes. you can hit the reset button to stop the auto scroll and scroll through manually using the top four buttons, I dont recall which ones you need to use to scroll through the computers and which ones scroll through the codes but you should be able to figure it out fairly easy.
Im going to see if I can find the thread I used to fix my unit and post back up.

Here is the thread I used to repair my display, but it sounds like you might have some other issue with your system as the compressor isnt actually engaging. When the compressor was replaced did the signal wire get hooked back up?

I would just post all the codes up on here and include the H or C suffix and then clear them to see if they come back. I dont know too much about the hvac system but Im sure someone who does will chime in soon enough.

Glad I could help with that.
But did you check to see if you had any codes that relate to the hvac system?

Not sure why I didnt think of this last night but check fuse # 24 in the engine compartment fuse box and if that is good swap out the micro relay 34 with another one of the same type which would probably be just about any of them. I would think 33, 35-40 would work but Im not looking at the actual relay right now so I cant say for sure. There is also a fuse in the passenger side foot well fuse box for the HVAC controls which should be good as it sounds like they are still working but its fuse #27.

i tried the code system, push the option button hit the gas 4 times and nothing happen? maybe i was doing it wrong. with the fuses i will check those tom and see, see the light just blinks a few times and then goes off.. the chevy dealer went out of business so it's like a 45 min drive to anyone that reallys knows what to do with a corvette, so maybe ill just take it to them would rather just fix it myself and save a few hundred bucks.

I probably did a poor job at explaining it, here is a better description that I found on the forum.
To enter the Diagnostic Display function perform the following steps in order:

1. Turn ON the ignition switch, engine OFF.
2. Press the RESET button to acknowledge any warning messages present.
3. Press the OPTIONS button on the Driver Information Center (DIC) and hold.
4. While holding the OPTIONS button press the FUEL button 4 times within a 10 second period.
5. System will first enter automatic display mode followed by the manual display mode.
The automatic display feature allow you to read each module DTC display function in an automatic display sequence. Each system module DTC will be displayed for 3 seconds followed by a 1 second pause before the next DTC is displayed in an automatic sequence. If no DTC information is sent to the IPC from the system currently displayed on the IPC, the IPC will display NO CODES for that system. At any time during the automatic display function, the manual display feature can be activated by pressing any button on the DIC except the E/M 5 button. The E/M 5 button is used to completely exit the DIAGNOSTICS mode at any time. If there is a communications problem between any system, the IPC will display NO COMM when the IPC is trying to communicate with that system. When all DTCs have been displayed for all systems, the IPC will display NO MORE CODES for 2 seconds then will enter the manual display mode, waiting for manual mode operation.

The manual display feature allows you to manually select each module DTC display function. The manual mode will automatically be entered after the automatic DTC display sequence is complete, or can be entered at any time during the automatic mode by pressing any button on the DIC except the E/M 5 (E/M 5 button is used to exit the DIAGNOSTIC mode at any time). When the manual mode is selected, the IPC will display the MANUAL DIAGNOSTICS mode message for 2 seconds, or until any button on the DIC except the E/M 5 is pressed. After the MANUAL DIAGNOSTICS mode message is displayed, the IPC will display the first system abbreviation and quantity of codes stored for that system, then the IPC will wait for further instructions. The buttons on the DIC provide the following functions when operating the on-board diagnostic feature in the manual mode:

DIC Button Function

FUEL 1 Previous DTC
GAGES 2 Next DTC
TRIP 3 Previous System
OPTIONS 4 Next System
E/M 5 Exit Diagnostics
RESET Clear DTCs

Oh and if it turns out to be something other than fuses and you get some dtc codes you will probably want to send Bill Curlee a pm as he will be able to help you out because most likely I wont be of any help. Im actually kinda surprised he hasnt dropped in. I am almost 100% positive that with his help you could fix it on your own without having to go to a steelership.

No problem, if you were close to me I would offer to come by and help out. Heck Im going to be needing a lot of help soon as I am looking at swapping a Ls1 into a 1987 el camino and doing all the work in my garage, its going to be a lot of work but I think it will be well worth it.
I would write all the codes down and post them including the H and/or C suffix, then you can clear them to see if any come back.
Also Im sure this is a give but you do have a full charge on the system right?

With just about any compressor they have a safety cutoff so they wont burn up without having freon in them so the compressor will not even engage. Make sure you have the system evacuated first since it has most likely been exposed to atmosphere, as freon doesnt mix well with that.
About the swap I just decided about pursuing the idea last week when I pulled the valve cover to replace the valve stem seals and discovered "bricks" of oil and about a quart of oil sitting on top of the head.... So needless to say I am still in the research phase of the swap and wont be ready to begin it until the summer at the earliest. Im wanting to get a long block so I wont have to buy too many parts separate. It is a very extensive lest that I have built up in my head already though. I cant really think of any parts that I need for my car other than a catch can but I havent decided which one I want yet.
