It’s been a month now with no more updates on the VaraRam RAM air system from the people that have it in their cars. Any news to report?
I noticed that their advertisement in the July Vette magazine offers a performance guarantee: “We guarantee the performance of our products, or we will buy them back!”
I am going to test one of their units in the next week or so. I made a few passes at HRP to get a baseline ET for my stock car. I will go back to HRP to see how much I can gain in ET and trap speeds. For a system like the Vararam, that's about the only fair way to assess performance. I don't know of any shop dynos that would simulate the performance at speed.
I spoke with Patrick and I am impressed with what I hear. I was holding off an intake change because of what I'd heard about the '02 Z06's and the WOT AFR problems. I am optimistic that the fuel ratios will be better for the Vararam/'02 Z06 combo than with a few of the other intakes.
When I first heard of this system, I was more than a little skeptical. Skeptical enough to do a few calculations on my own. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=197494 From what I read on the "other" forum (www. Corvetteforum.com), a member was able to record a 2.5 PSI manifold pressure increase over the MTI ram air setup. If I can get anything remotely approaching +2.5 PSI, I will be ecstatic.
At this stage it's all speculation, but hopefully I'll be able to get hard numbers in a week or two. I'll keep you guys posted.
The latest updates to the VR-1B are better shaped scoops and airbox that were created after some further R&D. Also, an optional foam race filter is almost available which will add roughly half a tenth in the 1/4 as well.
I am also interested in this system. Once I can view some hard fast numbers, I can make my decision. To the test mule community, appreciate your sharing your numbers and thanks.

If the weather holds out for the weekend, and there are no other problems a completely stock 99 C5 A4 will be testing the unit this weekend at Atco. The owner has baseline runs at this track and others so a very good comparison can be made. As the information is relayed to me I will pass it on. We also have other cars lined up to test also, from an A4 with only an X pipe, to a H/C car with a 4400 converter and 4.10 gears & a 408 stroker that has already gone 10.8's while being driven to the track.
Can I offer you a '98 MN6 lightly modded with baseline numbers for comparison testing? We are in Randolph NJ about 1 hrs. ride from Brick NJ. Plan to attend the challenge series this year as in the past. Please advise if there interest and thanks.

While track numbers are the ultimate test, you must record temp, humidity, and most important...barometric pressure for the base and modded conditions. Using these numbers you can calculate a corrected number which will be more realistic.....much like the correction factors on the dyno.
Case in point, I ran a best 12.43 and 113 MPH in my C5 Coupe M6 with just a K&N filter that dyno'ed at 320 RWHP.....but it was in optimal weather....
Yes I did, thanks! I actually posted a thank you (4th post, one message above yours :D). I want to see the car at the next Cartek Corvette Challenge. Nothing beats a close up inspection of the real thing.
